PP22024-2 : Single Chip Controller for Flash USB Drive

General Description

The PP2202 series are flash memory controllers, which can be used for implementation of flash memory storage device with USB interface. They are controllers embedded USB transceiver complying with USB 2.0 full speed. They are designed for providing state-of-the-art data exchange technology between USB host and storage device. With stable slew-rate control, they reduce EMI. Moreover, they have an embedded Phase Lock Loop (PLL), which supplies all clocks needed in the controller, and it only needs an external clock operating in 12MHz. In addition, the controllers have write-protection ability to prevent over-writing data to flash memory. In order to get the accuracy of secure data during data transfer, the function of Error Correction Code (ECC) is built in the controller. PP22024, PP22028(48TQFP) using internal ROM and PP2202R(64QFP) using external ROM is also provided and users can select one of packaging type depending on their needs.
They support different sizes flash memory. The combination consist of a group of 8, 16, 32, 64, 128MB or a group of new 128, 256, and 512MB. They have been optimized to support NAND flash memory products of Samsung, Toshiba and Sandisk.

According to package & application, there are 3 types of application as follows
1. PP22024(48TQFP)
1.1 Fully pin compatible with PP2201.
1.2 Supports different size of flash memory and Samsung advanced 1G, 2G, and 4G bit flash memory .
1.3 Supports max. 4 flash memories.
1.4 Can control LED ON/OFF period.

2. PP22028(48TQFP)
2.1 Not pin compatible with PP2201.
2.2 Supports different size of flash memory and Samsung advanced 1G, 2G, and 4G bit flash memory.
2.3 Supports max. 8 flash memories.
2.4 Can control LED ON/OFF period.
2.5 Supports 2 LEDs.

3. PP2202R(64QFP)
3.1 Use internal 32K ROM or external 64K ROM. .
3.2 Supports max 24 GPIOs in case of internal ROM..
3.3 Supports max 8 GPIOs in case of external ROM.
3.4 Supports max. 8 flash memories.
3.5 Can control LED ON/OFF period.
3.6 Supports 2 LEDs.

PP2202R can be used as MCU for various application using flash memory such as MP3 player, Voice recoder, etc. The PP22024/PP22028/PP2202R are fully plug-and-play compatible with Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows CE Linux OS, and they also work with Mac OS version 9.0 or higher without any driver installation. Windows 98 driver is available.
